Message You have it right, the heat generated from the electrical resistance goes like current squared. So more current means more heat.

On the other hand, I think a lot of heat is generated from the friction of the moving parts, not just electrical resistance. I don't know if the electrical contribution is significant relative to the friction...I suspect it is not.
